Thomas: Great desk Sturdy, solid pieces and looks great. Below the shelf height is 5in.

I got this to server as my COVID desk at home. IT was easy to put together and the pieces are solid. It is a writing desk so I wouldn't put my full weight on the wood that extends but it works great. My iMac fits well on top and I the clearance under the shelf is a hair over 5in.
